Lookalikes and how to tell them apart
GH and PicoBlade are 1.25 mm and visibly bigger, and GH has a latch. SH has no latch and only 1.0 mm between pins.
| Connector | Pitch | Latch | Per contact |
|---|---|---|---|
| JST SH | 1.0 mm | no, held by friction | 1 A |
| JST GH | 1.25 mm | yes, a tab to press | 1 A |
| JST ZH | 1.5 mm | no, held by friction | 1 A |
| Molex PicoBlade | 1.25 mm | no, held by friction | 1 A |
Before you plug it in
Qwiic and STEMMA QT are 4-pin JST SH with a fixed order: GND, 3.3 V, SDA, SCL (black, red, blue, yellow). They are made for 3.3 V.
Crimp terminals need the crimper die made for their size: pliers crush them and the contact works loose. Housings and terminals of different series don’t mix, even at the same pitch.
The current rating is a maximum per contact, at the wire size the maker states. With thinner wire, or with every contact carrying current, stay well below it.

Frequently asked questions
What is the pitch of the JST SH connector?
1.0 mm between the centres of two neighbouring contacts.
How much current can a JST SH connector carry?
1 A per contact with AWG 28 wire, at up to 50 V, according to JST.
Figures from the makers’ catalogues and datasheets. Ratings are maxima: derate for thin wire and for many loaded contacts.
