SHT31 vs SHT4x

5 of the 10 features in our table differ between the SHT31 and the SHT4x.

Sensirion

SHT31

±0.2 °C · ±2 %RH · I²C · 2.15 to 5.5 V

Sensirion’s well-proven sensor: ±0.2 °C, ±2 %RH, two I²C addresses and a supply from 2.15 to 5.5 V.

Watch out: The SHT4x is newer, smaller and more accurate on humidity for the same job.

Sensirion

SHT4x

±0.2 °C · ±1.8 %RH · I²C · 1.08 to 3.6 V

Sensirion’s current generation: ±0.2 °C and ±1.8 %RH (SHT45: ±0.1 °C, ±1.0 %RH), 80 nA idle and a built-in heater.

Watch out: Runs from 1.08 to 3.6 V only, so no 5 V. The address (0x44, 0x45 or 0x46) depends on the part code, not on a pin.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the SHT31 and the SHT4x?

The SHT31 offers a choice of I²C addresses, a 5 V supply, and a ready-made configuration in this site’s ESPHome generator. The SHT4x offers better humidity accuracy and less current between readings.

Which is more accurate, the SHT31 or the SHT4x?

Typical datasheet figures: temperature ±0.2 °C for the SHT31 and ±0.2 °C for the SHT4x; humidity ±2 %RH and ±1.8 %RH. Placement matters as much as accuracy: keep either away from the board’s warm parts.

Can I replace the SHT31 with the SHT4x?

Often yes: both use I²C. Change the driver or, in ESPHome, the component (sht3xd → sht4x). Check the supply too: 2.15 to 5.5 V for the SHT31, 1.08 to 3.6 V for the SHT4x.
